FROM TREE TO TABLE - beautifully crafted timber worked for you by an outdoor man.

As an occasional arborist, and saw-miller with a portable saw at the tree, I have beautiful ethically sourced Tasmanian grown timbers to craft into your prestigious home makers utensil. Aesthetically pleasing and perhaps quirky, your board will be desired for decades.

ABOUT ALAN AND HIS CREATIONS
Alan is a countryman of rural Tasmania, working in the foothills of Mt Arthur, where the air is pure, earth productive, and clear water flows from the mountain springs. He sources all his timbers locally from house and paddock trees reaching the end of their lifespan, natives and exotics, unsuitable for commercial millers. Otherwise destroyed, they are perfect for an occasional arborist. With his portable Lucas Mill, Alan mills the trees where they stand, seasoning them naturally in traditional stacks. This environmentally sound method of salvaging Tasmanian timbers answers the need for natural home-grown and made products and is a model of sustainability in the growing, making, use, and disposal of wood.
When it’s time to relax and be creative, Alan chooses his timber and works it into beautiful and practical products. He began working on his creations when he was searching to repurpose the more interesting offcuts from his sawmilling. Having a lifetime passion for woodworking, he loves making practical and beautiful pieces and now has them available to you through this online store to delight in and enjoy for years to come. Alan aims for perfection, and his hand and eye are guided by the qualities of the timber, creating a product that people love to see and use, and that can last a lifetime. These finished pieces are seasoned at room temperature and oiled to protect and highlight their beautiful texture and character.
Each board is unique, there is no standard size or pattern. They are for chopping and serving, as bread boards, cheese platters or pizza boards, and presentation boards. Most are skilfully made of end grain timber, some to a well thought out design, others quirky and apparently haphazard, all highlighting a beautiful naturally occurring grain. Some are several centimetres deep for heavy chopping, others are light and easy to move around at social gatherings.

CARE & MAINTENANCE
Your cutting board is knife friendly, and easy to clean. Timber has natural antibacterial qualities which aid in protecting your family and friends. To assist in this protection: after use, wipe your board with a fresh damp cloth and dry with a fresh dry cloth. When used for chopping or serving meats, wash your board in warm soapy water, rinse and immediately dry thoroughly. Give your board an occasional treat with board butter or food grade oils, store flat and thoroughly dry, and it can be in your family for generations.

“When my boards are not in use, I place them where I can see the light play on the textures and tones of the wood.”
