FAQ

  • Can I order a bespoke board?

Yes. Contact Alan with your idea, and discuss the possibiities with him.

  • Can you post a board to my friend as a gift from me?

We post Australia wide to the shipping address given at checkout. Alan’s boards are often purchased as gifts to homemakers: for weddings, Father’s Day, anniversaries and barbecue lovers, for example. We can add your message to your friend, either as an engraving on the board or on a handwritten card. All boards are wrapped with care and sent by Australia Post.

  • Optional extras

Laser engraving: If you would like to add a special message to your board please add engraving to your shopping cart when purchasing your board. Send your text or TIFF, BMP, or JPG image to Alan by email with instructions on size (up to 150mm) and where it is to be placed on the board. If your image is to be greater than 150mm talk to Alan first. We work with you to be sure it is to your satisfaction before the engraving is done as we do not accept returns of boards after adding your engraved message.

Feet: We add feet to large boards to assist in their handling and healthy storage when not in use. Not all boards will have feet, but if you would like them added for your purposes please contact Alan when you purchase the board.

Grooves: Finger grooves are sometimes added at each end of the board to aid handling. Juice grooves on the working surface are added to boards to collect juices from serving fruit or meat. If your board does not have a juice groove please contact Alan when you purchase the board if you would like one added.

  • How do I care for my board?

Wash in plenty of fresh warm soapy water, rinse, and dry immediately with a clean dry cloth. Stand on edge to allow airing on both sides. Regularly season with board conditioner.

Our board conditioner is a mix of beeswax, food grade mineral oil, and carnauba wax. Mineral oil keeps the wax pliable, carnauba wax leaves the board with a lovely durable gloss, and who doesn’t like traditional beeswax! Board conditioner comes in a variety of sizes - please see listing in shop.

Board conditioner will be easier to apply if the tin is warmed on a sunny windowsill or in a bowl of hot water before use. Use a lint free cloth or kitchen paper to wipe on and polish off.

Contact Alan if your board has been allowed to wear without regular maintenance as it may be possible to resurface the board.

  • What timbers are used in the boards?

Tasmanian oak and other Eucalyptus species, Tasmanian Buloke, Tasmanian Blackwood, Tasmanian Myrtle, and Tasmanian Celery Top are most frequently used, but occasionally other timbers are available.
